Synopsis
Morgan gets the beast men to back off momentarily by shooting his automag pistol in the air, but the results are temporary and he’s forced to fight them.

The scene shifts to another time. At the same temple, Morgan and his band of men explore, while Shakira takes her leave. They hope to ambush Kate Archer and her brigands. The men Morgan is with are the ones who attacked the maiden before, but Morgan seems to not mind their company. He tells them of the fall of Atlantis, and the last survivors coming to Skartaris when their continent sank beneath the ocean. Their descendants continued their decline, becoming the beast men.

Inside the temple they find the crumbling statues of the Atlantean gods, long forgotten. Morgan speaks of his love of adventure and lack of religion. They talk about how war keeps their blood flowing, and very quickly Tarik’s does as an arrow pierces his neck. The brigands have ambushed them instead. The battle is bloody and quick. The laughing returns and Morgan turns to see his platinum-haired maiden with blood dripping from her. “I have chosen well… my champion!” As a vision of Morgan at the head of a vast army appears, she adds, “Through you, I will once again rule in Skartaris.” A goddess of war and death, she has been with Morgan since he played war as a child, when he was fighter pilot in Vietnam and a spy pilot over Russia. She was with him when he crashed in Skartaris and through his bloody battles to free himself and destroy Deimos, and when he loved Tara.

Morgan remembers now. He remembers it all. The goddess gave him everything and Morgan serves her. He shall not age and grow weary, but shall remain a blood-soaked warrior with his name shouted in the hall of heroes. She kisses him.

It is then that Shakira awakens him. Lying among the dead of his party, he is back where he began. Shakira says he must have been ambushed, but Morgan only remembers a kiss. Shakira hands him his sword and he stands beneath a statue that looks very much like the goddess. As they mount his horse to leave, he asks what this place is and Shakira says it is perhaps a temple of one of the old gods. Morgan asks if she believes in them. Shakira answers no, and Morgan replies, “So do I,” and there is blood on the lips of the statue. eom
